Benefiting Jamaica Through Beautiful Beading by Katelyn
Katelyn is not your typical 5th grader - her mother describes her as "socially conscious" with a tender heart.
When she heard her parents talk about the challenges faced by school children in Jamaica, she was moved to do something to help. She heard her parents talk about crowded classrooms, lack of books, charts and other learning materials we take for granted and even lack of indoor bathroom facilities. She told her parents it made her sad that we have so much, and they have so little.
Already an accomplished jewelry maker (learned at her Grandmother's side) she decided to raise money by selling her designs, and named the project "Benefiting Jamaica Through Beautiful Beading by Katelyn" Katelyn made her first trip to Jamaica in April and delivered the money she raised for Friends of Jamaica to Mt. Airy School near Negril. The March and May newsletters tell the story with pictures.
Please help Katelyn continue her project by ordering jewelry for yourself and for gifts. Her creations will soon include Christmas decorations, so check back often!
Katelyn has raised $1,045.00 as of April 30. The project will be expanded to include items for inside the classroom!
